The Florida Information Protection Act (FIPA) is a Florida law that went into effect July 1, 2014. FIPA protect the privacy of personal information.

While this law mimics many of the same characteristics of HIPAA; there are differences. FIPA applies to ALL personal information, not just that of the patient. In addition to the privacy of patient information, this new regulation will affect employee records and credit reporting.
